Candles with a marbling effect do not only look fascinating. They are also easy to make yourself. The marbling result is unique and individual every time.
Preparation
The candles are created using the "dip marbling" technique. Marbling is a particularly pleasant creative pleasure, but it can cause paint splashes and drips.
Therefore, first protect your workplace and your hands from paint splashes. Use disposable gloves for this and preferably also the VBS handicraft mat.
Attach a piece of warp yarn to the wick of each stick candle that you want to marble. You can use this yarn to hang your candles to dry after the marbling process.
Also prepare a hanging device for these candles and take the precaution of protecting the floor underneath from paint splatters. This could be a coat hanger on a ceiling hook, for example.
For marbling, you will need an old container that is large enough to dip the candles in. An unused bucket, for example, is suitable. Please note that any paint residue cannot be removed later.
How to dip marbleize
Fill your container with cold tap water. Shake the marbling colors vigorously. Then add a few drops of the desired colors to the water. The marbling paints will remain on the surface of the water.
Tip: Do not use too many different shades as this will make the result look uneven.
Now you can use the bamboo skewer to draw patterns in the colors: Lines, waves, curls.
Dip the candles into this pattern and then pull them out again immediately: the colour for marbling will transfer from the surface of the water to the candle.
Hang the pillar candles up to dry immediately after dipping. If you have marbled pillar candles, these can dry well on the VBS handicraft mat dry.
Would you like to marble a new pattern/color effect? You can remove the paint residue on the surface of the water by dragging a piece of Paper through the water. Then simply add new drops of paint and draw a new pattern with a skewer.
kandelaar for pillar candles
If you would like to design a suitable kandelaar for the stick candles, you can make this yourself using the stick candle holder casting mold and Keraflott casting compound:
Mix 4 heaped tablespoons of the Keraflott casting compound with water and with 3 drops of colour concentrate to form a creamy mixture. Pour this into the "stick candle holder" mold. Tap lightly against the base of the mold to remove any air bubbles from the mixture.
After approx. 1 hour Time to dry: you can remove your new kandelaar from the mold.
